The maintenance tasks that keep a home functioning — organised by system, not by urgency, because most of these only become urgent when they've been skipped for too long.

Heating & Ventilation

Book the annual boiler serviceLegally required for landlords but equally important for homeowners; a serviced boiler is safer, more efficient and less likely to break on the coldest night of the year
Bleed radiators before the heating season startsTurn the heating off, use a radiator key on each valve until water (not air) comes out, wipe up and retighten. If a radiator is cold at the top but warm at the bottom, it needs bleeding.
Check the boiler pressure gaugeMost boilers operate between 1 and 1.5 bar when cold; if it's below 1, repressurise it (instructions are usually on the boiler door)
Clean or replace extractor fan covers in bathrooms and the kitchenThey clog with dust and grease and stop working effectively

Week 3 — Living Spaces & Bathroom

Day 15 — Books. A proper sort, not a glance.The question isn't whether you love books; it's whether you will read this one again. Books you've read and won't reread do more good in a charity shop.
Day 16 — DVDs, CDs, games, and any other physical mediaIf everything you want is on a streaming service, the physical copies are taking up space for nostalgia.
Day 17 — Paperwork: the pile on the desk or in the drawerSort into: keep permanently (contracts, certificates, medical records), keep for now (recent bills, warranties), shred and discard (old bank statements, expired documents).
Day 18 — Living room surfaces and decorative objectsPick up every object and decide intentionally whether it earns its place.
